Feng Shui - Home Improvements, Upgrades & Renovations
However, your extensions do not have to have the very same shape and shapes as the existing building to ensure continued good Feng Shui. If it's up to your fancy to do something quite different make sure that the design is compatible with your existing home, yet with a distinct separation in character. For instance or example, a pointed roof shape (fire) will go quite handily with a flat roof (earth) because fire burns to ash or earth: a flat roof (earth) will go with a curved roof (metal) because earth gives minerals or metal, and so on.
On the other hand, if you were to put a nicely and finely polished roof shape ( fire) against a curved roof shape (metal), then a most destructive order might well be created since fire melts metal and a curved roof ( metal) against a tall rectangular roof (wood) would be most bad Feng Shui practice because metal can chop wood.
As a general guide you can use the "Five Elements" diagram that is a basis of good Feng Shui practice - both as a basis and manual for planning and following through with Feng Shui planning practices as well as the follow through process. This way you can more than ensure that changes in your home follow a most productive as well as enhanced planned sequence. As well consider that when you involve extensions that you may add to your property, to take into account the shape of your site and its surroundings.
One other very valuable current practice, that is most trendy and important at this time, is to be "green". Use as many recycled materials as possible. It's not only a case of "waste not, want not", but good solid environmental and Feng Shui practice as well. Without the care of "mother earth" we are all left alone in this world and in this universe.
Many people these days use recycled materials - whether for reasons of fashion, to help save to environment and if nothing else because it's economical - a good way to be thrifty and save money on our household improvement and construction renovation projects. Renovations, as we all know, bring about an enhancement to our lives and our abodes - almost a rebirth.
Take care to be aware of the types of recycled materials that you purchase, trade or retrieve as they will end up becoming an integral part and component of your home or office buildings. Old materials may have "left over" qi. Left over qi can carry over and affect the most vital Feng Shui of your home.
If there is one general rule when it comes to using recycled material in your home renovations and construction upgrades it is not to use more than one third secondhand materials when you are building or are involved in renovations.
It can best be said that for structural work - like columns and beams - then it is best to use new material and materials. In hidden places, for example roofs, wall framing and rendered brides then it can be best to use a mixture of old and new. Lastly for plumbing and electrical work always use brand new materials. It's better to be safe than sorry. It never hurts to err on the side of safety and durability when it comes to home renovations and upgrades.

Feng Shui Home
The feng shui home analysis further involves the investigation of the front and back structures as they are differentiated for houses. On the other hand apartments tend to follow the light source, looking towards windows, but the problem under such circumstances would be the entrance that is usually dark because it's located more towards the center of the building. Compensations do exist in the feng shui design of an apartment. You can attract more positive energy when you can make the choice of floor you want to live at, not to mention that the selection of the flat with the best view is one other top point to benefit from in terms of feng shui home arrangement.
Many of the feng shui home tips are misinterpreted leading to incorrect applications. For instance, many people avoid putting their aquarium in the kitchen since they consider water will extinguish the fire element specific to this house area. Such a principle has to be understood symbolically, particularly since the presence of the water tank in the kitchen could increase the prosperity of the home. Another false feng shui home tip is that of never keeping books in the bedroom since they will stimulate you and prevent good sleep. False!
Unfortunately, many other examples of false myths like the ones presented above are present in feng shui home guides that are bought and used by people all over the world. The next question here would be how to recognize what is good and what is wrong. The first word of advice is to use your intuition and not go for the rules that say "never" or "always". Real feng shui home applications will always take the individuality factor into consideration since every person is a unique entity and the generalities have to be particularized.

Selling Your House Fast With Feng Shui
Many real estate agents and home investors like to contact me to find out if there is a feng shui ritual they could use to sell a house quickly and for the price they want. A recent reader of my blog wrote to me asking:
I am a Realtor and have a home listed right now that I feel should have sold quickly. It's beautiful and the price is right as well. Any idea on what I could do to bring good luck to this home, so that it will sell quickly? Our housing market is a bit slow right now, but this home is the best priced one in the area compared with other homes that offer the same features. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Being a property enthusiast myself, I've noticed that a house that has great features alone won't sell it. I've been to houses that have all the great features but comments from open-home guests are that it just doesn't feel right. It's got to have good chi flow and this cannot be changed overnight. For example, if the house has a front door that directly faces the back door; this is a serious layout problem that would need walls built to remedy correctly (windchimes in between are OK short-term fixes).
However, there is a ritual (I can't remember the source though I'm afraid - I think it's in one my aunt's books) which uses the 5 elements method to bring on a quick sale. I can't promise that it would bring you the price you want, but I have had clients and friends who have managed to move very difficult property or bring motivated buyers using this method.
Inside a red packet (angpow packet), place the following items:
1. a small piece of wood from the kitchen of the house for sale
2. a small piece of metal from the kitchen of the house for sale
3. some earth from the garden of the house for sale
Then, find a fast-moving stream or river, and throw the red packet into the fast moving water. Visualise a quick sale of the house while throwing this into the water.
I also recommend doing some space clearing rituals to clear out stale chi before an open home.
Some other methods that I've heard of are:
- Hang a photo of the house for sale, and stick a "SOLD" sticker on it. Paste it somewhere you can see everyday (kitchen fridge) until it is sold.
- At the entrance of the house, hang a picture of a bird carrying a price tag (be hopeful, but realistic!) on it's beak - flying in towards the house. It should not fly out.
Try these and if it works for you please write in to my posting at to comment!

Wall Mounted Fountains in a Feng Shui Home
Improved Feng Shui is just one of the many reasons why indoor wall mounted fountains are chosen to enhance the ambience of some of the finest homes, business, restaurants, hotels and corporations from around the world. These wall mounted fountains are also very easy to take care of.
When we moved into our new house, we wanted to have a calming ambience throughout our house. After researching online, we found that a wall mounted waterfall was the answer. Indoor wall mounted fountains provide a stunning accent for any room and are available in a wide variety of wallet friendly prices.
Indoor wall mounted fountains are becoming very popular as an indoor accessory and for many adding one to their interior is of major importance. It certainly was for us. Fountains can also add to the humidity which is good in certain environments. Indoor wall mounted fountains are a way for you to bring the relaxing effects of running water into the home or office.
We found that wall mounted fountains are also available in a wonderful selection of artwork forms, whether you prefer a traditional or contemporary unit, you are sure to find just the right fountain for any room you are modifying.
Indoor wall mounted fountains are flat, and have water flowing over the fountain face, and are framed on the top and bottom. Our wall mounted fountain was easy to set up, and even easier to enjoy.
After researching online at the many different designs styles from traditional lion head wall mounted fountains or cherub water fountains to contemporary and modern wall mount fountains such as the Vestaglia indoor wall fountain by Hunter Kenroy and the Waikiki Beach wall fountain by Water Wonders we settled on a medium Waikiki that we found at Serenity Health.
Indoor fountains are available in many styles, made with long-lasting materials like stainless steel and heat-treated metals and come in a variety of designs and sizes.
Your wall mounted fountain can transform your home by providing a wonderful backdrop for other relaxation techniques, such as meditation or yoga. You will find that your indoor wall fountain has the ability to calm anyone within the area you display your personal oasis of relaxation. They add to the value of any setting while at work or entertaining guests in your home and are a great conversation piece.
Another benefit that we found with indoor wall mounted fountains is they also act as natural air purifiers. The water tumbles back into the indoor fountains reservoir releasing negative ions into the room.
These negative ions bond to unwanted dust particles and allergens, purifying the environment and promoting physical and mental health. It is this energy transfer that concerns the Feng Shui discipline, which teaches us the importance of maintaining a proper balance of elements for a healthy, prosperous environment.
The air inside your home is often more polluted than the air outside, and you can help to make your environment healthier with a wall mounted fountain.
The author recently installed a water fountain in his own home. Feng Shui Tips For Your Bedroom
One of the symptoms of wrong location of the bed can be observed in those who are always accident prone. When one is subject to disturbing energy due to bad location of the bed on which one is staying static for at least 8 hours per night or more, one can be very nervous and ill-tempered during the day, to say the least. Not to mention a host of other problems that are related to this bad feng shui symptom. And this can be just the beginning of many problems, which include all kinds of dis-eases at the mental, emotional as well as physical level.
To locate the bed in the best feng shui manner, there are several main points to observe:
1. The bed has to be positioned in such a way that it has to have a solid backup to it. This is to say that it'd be vital to sleep with our heads close to the wall against which the head of our bed is leaned. The further away our head is from the solid wall, the less auspicious energy we're exposed to during our sleep.
2. It's not a good idea to have a ceiling fan right above the bed as, according to the 'Kua' in I-ching, it gives out intrinsic energy imprints for our 'middle section' to be empty, which is absolutely something a pregnant lady should refrain from no matter what. Even for those who are not concerned with pregnancy, such intrinsic energy imprint would throw the solar plexus' energy off balanced, which would create the 'un-groundedness' that is so evident in those who're always considered as having 'bad luck'. Hence the reason for 'bad luck' - when one's not 'grounded', one has nothing to show for, let alone 'luck'.
3. There is no place for mirrors in the bedroom, straight and simple. Besides being used for drawing in energy from its opposite direction, mirrors can bounce energies back and forth, thus creating much dynamic movement of 'chi' - the 'Yang energy'. When too much 'Yang energy' is present in the bedroom, the 'Yin state' is not facilitated. Therefore, it's a wrong idea to have mirrors in the bedroom where the 'Yin state' is to be preferred.
4. The height of the bed is also of much importance in terms of feng shui. One would not want to feel being suspended in mid air when sleeping. The issue of 'un-groundedness' comes into play again here as feng shui has a great deal to do with earth energy. When one is in the open and static 'Yin state', one's energy system is wide open and thus easily affected by many external factors such as those mentioned above. Sleeping with such feeling as being suspended in mid air renders one vulnerable to unstable energetic upheavals; therefore, it's not good feng shui design at all.
On top of all the above-mentioned is the importance of precise configuration of bed location according to the 'flying-stars' table, without which all feng shui work is not complete. What the 'flying-stars' table is to feng shui is very much like the multiplication table to mathematics. No advanced work can be done without it...more on that later.

Home Feng Shui
Good chi is healthy, strong and balanced. Poor Chi is weak, ailing and imbalanced. By moving objects or changing its placement at our homes, we can enhance Chi. Thus we can balance and improve our life circumstances and reduce tension and stress.
Shar chi is negative energy. Sharp angles contain shar chi and they are like ‘poison arrows’ that generate negative energy to the area they point to. People who are having activities at these inauspicious areas are likely to be quick-tempered and quarrel frequently. A shar’s energy can be blocked by filling in the angle.
A house should be as airy as possible, uncluttered and attractive with plenty of light to attract beneficial chi. However, you should never sleep under a beam or with any other objects such as a windchime or ceiling light place directly over your head. This will cause the person to have restless sleeps. Stairways are like beams, thus it is inauspicious for door to face a stairway directly. This can affect family harmony and finances.
Mirrors are common in bedrooms. However, many feng shui practitioners see them as inauspicious and it should not be placed in couple’s rooms. They believe that mirrors reflect aggressive energy and strain the relationship of the couple who sleep there and causes bad luck to the single person. By using a smaller mirror will reduce the negative energy.
Well, that's all for now. Thank you for reading.

Buying A Home With Feng Shui - Location, Location, Location
If your home is at a T-junction, then you will likely have a rush of chaotic energy directed at your home. This can create a very difficult living space, because it interferes with the positive energy that you are trying to create within your home. Every time you open the door to your house, you will be letting in a rush of chaotic, negative energy.
Conversely, if your home is located at the end of a cul-de-sac, you will find that the energy in that area is very stagnant, because there is really nowhere for it to go. So it can be very hard to invite new people and new opportunities into your home, since the energy directly in front of your home is stagnant and motionless.
There are a few ways that you can deal with this using the principles of feng shui. If you have a rush of energy bombarding your home because your home is located at a T-junction, you can place a bagua mirror above your front door to deflect the chaotic energy. You can also plant trees or bushes at the end of your driveway to help shield your home against this energy. If you enjoy statuary, you can also play statues in front of your home that are protective - Buddha, Kwan Yin, dragon, and lion statues all work well for this.
If the energy around your home is stagnant because it is located at the end of a cul-de-sac, you can help to change this by installing water features near the front door of your home. When you do this, make sure that they are features that contain moving water, such as fountains or waterfalls. If it is not practical to use water features in front of your home, you can also use landscaping elements that represent flowing water, such as flags, wind chimes, or other freely moving objects.
Having a home located at a T-junction or cul-de-sac can seem like a significant challenge to many people, especially if they do not know why the energy around our home is not harmonious. However, by using the steps that we have discussed in this article, you can easily create a harmonious space within your home, regardless of where your home is located.

5 Feng Shui Tips For the Bathroom
In modern times however, an attached bathroom is considered a luxury, and most houses have at least two bathrooms or more. Here are five bathroom feng shui taboos to observe.
1. Never locate the bathroom in the Northwest and Southwest sectors of your home. The Northwest direction of your house represents the patriarch while the Southwest direction represents the matriarch. In the household, it is important to make sure that the farther and mother enjoy good feng shui as they provide for and support for the whole family. If you already have bathrooms in these areas, and relocating them isn't an option, at the very least try to relocate to toilet bowl so that it is not directly located in those sectors.
2. For many of us the toilet is a place to relax. It is also a sanctuary after a long day's work. Having lavish decorations in the bathrooms if the common interior design trend today. One must be careful not to be overly ostentatious in decorating the bathroom. For example, it is inauspicious to decorate the bathroom with luxurious elements such as gold, crystals, diamonds, or anything that represents wealth and prosperity. The bathroom is where waste and water gets flushed away. An overly ostentatious bathroom represents wealth being flushed away.
3. Another important tip is to never place a bathroom directly above the main door. The main door is the most important part of the home and should be kept auspicious. Having a toilet directly above the main door (on the higher floor) ruins the feng shui of your home's entrance. This is a major taboo when it comes to bathrooms. If your bathroom is located in such a manner, you must either relocate your bathroom or the main entrance. This configuration does not only bring bad luck, but also tragedies and misfortunes.
4. Today it is common for bedrooms to have an attached bathroom. In such a configuration, one must make sure that the bed and the toilet bowl to not share the same wall.
5. The most inauspicious part of the WC is the toilet (or more specifically the toilet bowl). The bathroom, where you have your shower or bath, can be big and spacious. The toilet should be as small and as discrete as you can manage. Preferably, the toilet should be located in a different room, separated by a door. This way, you can have the bath area as big as you want and have it decorated as ostentatiously as you want it to be.

Feng Shui Tips to Attracting Wealth to Your Home
Every one of us has a foible or some sort of quirky tradition we do to increase our luck. It can be a favourite locker at the gym or a favourite shoe we wear on a specific day. Sounds strange? Sure, but people swear by them.
Millions of people swear by Feng Shui and if you are at all interested in bringing a tidal wave of luck and prosperity to your life, here are some fengshui tips to attracting wealth to your home.
Colours Of Your House
One of the best ways is to have a look at the colours of your house. White is a bad colour for most Chinese especially in Feng Shui because is represents death. Colour is important in bringing prosperity to your home because it creates a vibrant relationship with nature.
Try to add some red into important areas of the house, like your work area, or even the bedroom. Shades of red and even pink will do as they are colours of luck in oriental tradition. Luck translates directly into wealth and prosperity.
Gold is also considered to be one of the best colours to use. Try to accessorise your place with some gold, a Chinese speciality shop is one of the best places to look, or if one isn't available, Western substitutes will sometimes do just as well.
Arrangement Of Your House
Feng shui and Chi - or good energy needs more space and less clutter for energy to be attracted to your home and flow evenly within. This is where some rearrangement needs to take place and if a place looks messy and gives you an uncomfortable feeling, it is more than just likely that it has some really bad feng shui and is chasing your wealth 'Chi' away faster than a bad smell in a small room. Breathing spaces are important especially in places in your house where you store money or do work.
Also, exits should never be in clear views within the house - especially when you first walk in to your house. Money and prosperity riding on waves of good energy will walk in to your place and leave just as quickly through exits. Don't make them the highlight of your décor, and some Chinese households even use a screen to cover them up.
Have a look into feng shui crystals, because they are believed to be powerful tools that resonate with frequencies that bring wealth, health and prosperity to the household. Do a bit of research because each crystal has a specific purpose.
These are just some fengshui tips to transform your place from a vacuum of profit to a living breathing magnet for wealth and opportunity. The process is most of the time simple and if you can invest a bit more, have a Feng Shui Master to come and have a peek and your place - maybe make some recommendations. You won't regret it.

Feng Shui Tips For Choosing a New Home
Road forms
Do this as you drive toward the house. Observe the roads around the house.
- There should be no roads pointing directly into the house.
- The house should be at the concave bend of the road; i.e. the road should bend around the house rather than away from the house.
- The house should not be at the dead end point of the road.
- Roads that completely encircle the house, is inauspicious.
- The house should not have roads on more than 2 sides.
- Roads may not be found at both front and back of the house.
- Houses near fast roads, like highways, train tracks, airport runways are very inauspicious.
- Avoid houses near steep, heavy-traffic roads.
- Avoid houses under or near flyover bridges.
Land Forms
Buildings, along with natural land forms like hills and mountains affect the feng shui of a house. A good way to observe this is to stand outside the house and look around. In apartments, it is also good to take a look outside every window and check the view.
- Avoid houses that are dwarfed by other buildings. The same concept for houses facing cliffs and large rocks.
- Look out for sharp edged structures like corners of buildings, pointed roofs, jagged mountain rocks, or huge sharp edged sculpture pointing toward the house. These bring inauspicious energy to the house.
- Power stations near the house, and power lines running over the house brings inauspicious energy too.
- Buildings, places that represent sickness and death, in the vicinity affects the house with oppressive energy. Avoid houses near hospitals, grave yards, hospices, slaughter houses.
The Neighborhood
No man is an island. No matter how nice a house is, its Qi is ultimately affected by the surrounding neighborhood.
- Be wary of unusually "quiet" neighborhoods. Stay away from neighborhoods that have too many vacant houses, no sign of children, pets, or other fun human activity like gardening. These places have dead qi.
- Too many unfinished, run-down houses indicate overall bad feng shui.
Activity from children, animals and people doing things like sports is a sign of a healthy neighborhood.
House Entrance
- Avoid houses if the main door gives you the feeling of being threatening. Some times you may not understand why it makes you feel uneasy, but it is wise to take it as a sign that is is bad feng shui.
- Avoid houses where you cannot find the main entrance door. These kinds of houses do exist, maybe because of strange structure, overgrown garden, or irregular shaped plot of land. It you cannot find the entrance easily, good luck will find difficulty entering the home too!
- Entrances that look like they are being capped by an out-of-shaped awning, strange over-sized roofs should be avoided too.
Interior and Structure
Needless to say the structure of the house is everything in Feng Shui. Enter a prospective house with a conscious effort to feel it's ambiance. Use you five senses to intuitively audit the house.
- Avoid irregularly shaped buildings, buildings with protrusions, triangular shape, spear shaped buildings are notorious for bringing down relationships in the family. This is because the more irregular shape will mean more sharp wall corners in the house. Rectangular shaped buildings are the best bet.
- Roof should be the right size. If a roof dominates the house structure, occupants in it will probably feel dominated too.
- Windows bring in light and qi. Houses with windows too small or too few windows trap stagnant qi.
- Long corridors are common in many houses. This a poor feng shui feature, because it allows little movement and "sha qi" brought about by a bottle neck effect.
- Sniff out humidity and dampness. This is common in cellars and attic. Avoid homes that have signs of dampness and humidity because it is a precursor for bigger problems later on. You can smell dampness in enclosed rooms. Other signs are water stains on walls and fungus.
Once you have checked the house based on the preliminary observations above, and most of the criteria is met, do a more thorough feng shui of the house using the feng shui calculator and the detailed instructions in http://tao-astrology.com/
Hope you benefited from these Feng shui tips, and happy house hunting.

Feng Shui Dangers Around Your Home
For starters, as a general rule, pillars located in the middle of the room are bad feng shui. It represents an arrow or a knife stabbing through the home or the room. Don't fret if relocating that pillar is not an option for you, as there some feng shui remedies which you can use to counter its negative effects. The general rule is to make the pillar as discreet as possible. Place some potted plants around the pillar to make its appearance less visible. Alternatively, you can install mirrors on the pillar. From far, pillars completely covered with mirrors would seem 'invisible'.
Another thing to take note of are exposed beams on the ceiling. Do not sleep, work, eat, or do anything important under these beams as they can cause headaches, restlessness and in the long run, even cause health problems. If your house has such exposed beams on the ceiling, hang some wind chimes or a flute from the beam to soften its negative effects.
Another important thing to do is to take notice of your home's surroundings. Sharp and pointed building structures such as telecommunication towers or electrical grids are very bad feng shui. The sharp structures represent poison arrows and if they are located near your home, can cause illnesses and misfortune. If relocating is not an option, at the very least, make sure such structures are not visible from your main door.
Water towers and reservoirs are also extremely bad feng shui, especially if you are living directly below it or in its vicinity. Having such a large body of water above your home is inauspicious as the home may be 'drowned' by the excessive yin energy from the water above.
As much as possible, try to avoid staying near industrial or commercial areas and also busy roads and highways as such places emit excessive Yang energy that is not good for the home.

Attracting Money Into Your Feng Shui Home
In order to achieve this goal, we will take a look at two well known Feng Shui symbols: The Feng Shui frog and the Feng Shui turtle. These symbols have to do with Feng Shui wealth and are associated with the Feng Shui money aspect of your living environment.
Frogs symbolize the leaping effect of money coming into your life and, in this case, your home. Ideally, Feng Shui frogs should be placed outside of your home. A Feng Shui home will usually have frogs located somewhere in front of the house or apartment. I like to place 3 frogs on the front lawn, several feet apart.
The most important aspect to placing these powerful Feng Shui cures and Feng Shui symbols is to make sure the frogs are leaping towards the house. The backs of Feng Shui frogs should face the street and the heads of the frogs should face the front of the house. In addition, one of the three frogs should wind up facing the front door. Simply make sure the third frog has its back to the curb and its head is facing your homes' front door. The arrangement of the frogs symbolizes Feng Shui wealth leaping in through the front door and into your home. If we decide to add a water feature to our arrangement of frogs, we will multiply the Feng Shui effect and create a very positive and powerful flow of Chi towards the house.
The Feng Shui symbol of the turtle represents the slow moving energy of wealth leaving the household. Since turtles move slowly and frogs leap fast, the connection is easy to make. I know some of you are probably thinking, "Hmm... Maybe I can use frogs and turtles to get my needs met in other areas of my life, such as a Feng Shui relationship or faster or slower Feng Shui sex?" Well...at least I have you thinking about Feng Shui symbols and how they relate to your everyday life. Unfortunately, these particular symbols work best for attracting and maintaining wealth.
O.K. now that I have you back in focus and on the task at hand, let's discuss how and where to utilize Feng Shui wealth symbol number two: The Turtle.
All turtles should be placed in the rear of the house or apartment. Patios, decks or yards are totally acceptable places for your team of turtles. Try placing three turtles with their backs facing the house. The heads of the turtles should be facing away from the house the eyes should not be looking at the house, deck, patio or yard. Also, if you want to boost the effectiveness of the turtles, paint four small red dots on the back of each turtle. Red is a powerful Feng Shui wealth color.
If you go to a garden shop you will find frogs and turtles that can withstand various weather conditions in your area.

6 Feng Shui Tips to Revitalize Your Home
1. The main door is the most important parts of the home. It is where the outer environment connects with your house. Empower the main door by displaying images of auspicious creatures at its vicinity. It could be a painting of a thousand birds, or a picture of dragons, phoenix, or any other celestial animals.
2. Bright lights are great for creating Yang energy. Although it is a waste of energy to keep the whole house lighted at all times, there should never be overly dark areas in your home. Houses with a bright ambiance enjoy better feng shui than dark and gloomy ones.
3. Pets such as cats and dogs are excellent for stimulating a healthy energy flow in your home. When you are off to work, or away on vacation, your pets keep your home's energy from becoming stale.
4. Your kitchen should be located deep within your home and should not be visible from the main door. Never place the kitchen in the Northwest and Southwest corner of the home.
5. A large mirror in the dining room is extremely good feng shui. A mirror that is large enough to reflect the whole family as well as the food on the table attracts good fortune.
6. Hallways, foyers and walkways should always be free of clutter. Clutter not only inhibits the flow of energy, but also causes the accumulation of stale Chi. Having lots of clutter in walkways and foyers suggest the presence of lots of obstacles in your path.
These are just a few examples in the practice of good feng shui. Give these tips a try and watch how good feng shui can revitalize your home!
